BOYS & GIRLS CLUB MOVES FORWARD WITH WILLIAM N. PENNINGTON FACILITY

Demolition of old YMCA building on Foster Drive Jan. 9 starts project  

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows moves one step closer to the start of construction for the new William N. Pennington Facility, Jan. 9, 11 a.m., with the demolition of the old YMCA building on Foster Drive in Reno. The demolition party will include City of Reno officials, Foundation partners and members of the Board of Directors to kick-off this phase of the project and help make way for the new 50,000-square-foot Club facility scheduled to be completed by summer 2014.

The new Pennington Boys & Girls Club facility to serve the needs of both the immediate neighborhood and many nearby at-risk youth, expected to serve an additional 3,000 to 4,000 youth annually, an increase of 25 percent for the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. The Club is now working on the public fundraising phase for the project and reaching out to corporations, foundations, families and individual donors from the community to support and become a part of the new facility.

PENNINGTON FACILITY UPDATE

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows will start demolition of the old YMCA building on Foster Drive in January. Construction will begin in Spring 2013 for the new William N. Pennington Facility, a 50,000 square foot Boys & Girls Club in southwest Reno.

The initial fundraising phase for the William N. Pennington Facility has been completed reaching the initial $3.5 million goal from community foundations.  The project began with the generosity of the William N. Pennington Foundation, which committed $9 million toward the building, with a $3.5 million match requirement. The Club added an additional $1.5 million to incorporate infrastructure upgrades and the first two years of operating funds, bringing the total to be raised to $5 million. The Club will now begin its final fundraising phase with opportunities for corporations, families and individual donors to contribute to the project.
