Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to benefit from Vintage Nevada Sept. 27

Northern Nevada’s premier event for food and wine connoisseurs  

One of northern Nevada’s most celebrated events, Vintage Nevada, returns Sept. 27 from 5 – 8 p.m. with a new location, Tuscany Ballroom at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino. The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is the official benefactor of the 23rd annual event where attendees enjoy hundreds of specialty wines, beers and spirits, alongside a large selection of hors d’oeuvres, entrees and desserts and partake in silent and live auctions. The event organized by Southern Wine & Spirits raises funds for the Club, which serves more than 11,000 children annually in northern Nevada. Tickets are available online at www.VintageNevada.com for $50; $60 at the door.

“We are extremely excited for this year’s event, which will raise additional funds for the Boys & Girls Club and kids in our community as a whole,” said Tony King, General Manager, Southern Wine & Spirits. “This year’s event brings an exciting new location, new vendors and an impressive auction including trips, collectibles, wine and more.”

The 23rd annual Vintage Nevada event features wines from around the world, specialty beers, ales, lagers and premium liquors from a variety of purveyors. Vintage Nevada also offers attendees festive hors d’oeuvres, delicious entrees and elegant desserts from Reno’s finest casino restaurateurs and retail establishments as well as exciting auctions including culinary trips, VIP winery visits and other cultural experiences. In addition, all Vintage Nevada attendees receive free admission to Edge Nightclub following the event.

Vintage Nevada tickets can be purchased online or at these retail locations: L’Uva Bella Wine Shop, both Whispering Vine Wine Shops, Ben’s on Lakeside and Ben’s on South Virginia. In Carson City, tickets can be purchased at Aloha Discount Liquor Store. Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Invites Community to 12th Annual Day For Kids Sept. 21

FREE family event, Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Sparks Marina

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows hosts its annual Day For Kids event at the Sparks Marina featuring a free barbecue lunch, free T-shirts, games, arts & crafts, face painting, Soil Tech sand-castle-building and informational vendor booths for both parents and children. The event, held in conjunction with Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation, is designed to encourage adults to spend meaningful time with kids by spending a day together and to provide families with the resources needed to live a quality, healthy lifestyle.

The family event presented by Cashman Equipment runs from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and features vendors such as Renown Children’s Hospital, Amerigroup, Washoe County District Attorney, Immunize Nevada, Small Smiles, KNPB, Nevada Virtual Academy, Soil-Tech, Office of Suicide Prevention, Washoe County Health District, Washoe County Social Services, Sparks Kiwanis, Discovery Museum, First Tee of Northern Nevada, Washoe County School District Parent University, Washoe County Child ID Program and many more.

Additionally, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows hosts a Day For Kids event in Fernley, Sept. 14 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Fernley In-Town Park.

Research shows that when adults spend meaningful time with kids it helps them develop a positive self-image and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purpose. Now, more than ever, Boys & Girls Club Day For Kids provides adults and kids an opportunity to take a break from their busy lives and celebrate the wonder of life and the fulfillment of spending time together.

Day for Kids takes over Sparks Marina

More than 2,500 children and families will gather at the Sparks Marina Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows 12th annual Day for Kids, presented by Cashman Equipment. Join the festivities for a free barbecue lunch, games, bounce houses, face painting, entertainment, free T-shirts and prizes, free Club memberships and educational vendors offering information and community services – all at no charge to the public.

Sponsorships are still available to be a part of this exciting day. Space is available for businesses and nonprofits that serve families – in every industry from doctors’ clinics to housing assistance. Space is limited, so vendors are encouraged to secure their spots early.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB CELEBRATES 36TH ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET, NOV. 8 WITH “ADVENTURES IN OZ” THEMED EVENING

Awards Banquet Honors local businessman, Jack Stanko and Female and Male Youth of the Year 

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows recognizes the best in volunteerism and community support at this year’s “Adventures in Oz” themed 36th Annual Awards Banquet, Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino. Cocktail service begins at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and program at 6 p.m.

The 36th Annual Awards Banquet honors Jack Stanko, president, Champion Chevrolet with the 2012 Distinguished Service award and also includes a program featuring Club talent show winners in an “Adventures in Oz” performance that takes the stage throughout the evening.

The night also honors the children who make a difference in the lives of friends and peers by living the Club’s mission each day, leading by example and helping others. Nine members from the Club’s youth and teen centers are set to receive a Member of the Year award, saluting his or her service and guidance among the Club’s 10,000 members. The 2012 Male and Female Youth of the Year awards also are awarded that evening.

“We are very much looking forward to honoring those that provide tremendous support and leadership at the Club during the Annual Awards Banquet,” said Mike Wurm, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. “Each year we thank those who strive to be a positive influence in the lives of children and we are extremely excited for this year’s “Adventures in Oz” themed event – it will be quite a show.”

The 36th Annual Awards Banquet includes hosted cocktails from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by dinner and awards. The Emerald City sponsorship is available for $1,300 and includes a 10-person table and full-page ad, while the $1,200 Yellow Brick Road sponsor receives a 10-person table and half-page ad.
