MEMBERSHIP

• The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows follows the traditional school calendar set forth by Washoe County School District.

• Membership year runs from June 1—May 31.

• Membership forms must be completed annually.

• A parent/guardian must attend an orientation before children 6 – 12 may start the program.

• The orientation reviews policies, activities and answers any questions parents may have regarding our program and is required annually for parents/guardians.

• Orientations are conducted throughout the summer. For a full summer schedule of membership orientations click here.

• Teens may pick up an application from the Membership Office or their Site Coordinator.

• After May 31, members who have not renewed will not be able to attend the Club until orientation is completed.

GENERAL CLUB RULES

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows will keep the Club environment as safe and positive as possible for not only the members but also the staff. Please reference the Rules Handout for a complete list and make sure your child knows them when they attend the Club.

BGC_DrSeuss_238FIELD TRIPS, SPECIALTY CAMPS & CREDITS

• To attend field trips or specialty camps, members 6 – 12 must have their membership card and a field trip T-shirt.

• T-Shirts are color coded by site: Pennington = Red; DWR = Green; Neil Road & Fernley = Orange; All other sites = Yellow

• Lost shirts will not be replaced.

• For safety purposes, please do not write the member’s name on the shirt.

• Some field trips and specialty camps will require additional items such as waivers, towels, water bottles and sunscreen.

• Credits will be issued only if the child is not at the Club due to an illness, family emergency, etc., however credits must be requested no later than the day of the event.

• Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows reserves the right to relocate the destination of a field trip without notice with a trip of equal or lesser value.

• Field trips must be paid for the week prior for the member to attend. This allows Club to make adjustments for staffing ratios.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

• NO child is ever turned away because of the inability to pay.

• Financial assistance is offered through the Children’s Cabinet or the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

• Financial Aid packets are available at all orientations and must be filled out and turned in with required documents before it will be processed.

• Proof of income is required as well as Social Security numbers.

• Children can only be on one financial program at a time, and if you need to cancel service, a written request must be provided.

• Financial Aid year runs July 1—June 30.

• Parents/Guardians must apply annually to qualify. 

HOW TO REGISTER | SUMMER CAMP PLANNER

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION

Summer Camp registration begins Thursday, May 1, 2014. Membership Orientations are held May through August at youth sites. A parent/guardian must attend an orientation before children 6–12 may start the Summer Camp program. Parents/guardians will receive all necessary forms and information at this 30 minute orientation.

 

SUMMER CAMP PAYMENTS

All Summer Day Camp payments must be paid in person at the site of the summer camp your child is attending. Payments are due no later than Friday at 5PM for camp on the following week. We accept cash, check, money orders and VISA/MasterCard.

DSC_0164TRADITIONAL SUMMER DAY CAMP

Join us for a summer full of excitement and adventure. Activities include indoor and outdoor games, arts-n-crafts, sports and many more weekly activities. Summer Day Camp features weekly themes and special field trips (for an additional fee) including Wild Island, Coconut Bowl, Pump it Up, Roller Kingdom, Mini Golf, movies, Discovery Museum, Reno Aces games, bowling, and arcades. Summer Day Camp includes breakfast and lunch daily.

Fee: $40 per Week / per Child

bgctm_penningtonBuilding_051714_0057An exciting new chapter is opening for the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows with the completed construction of the new William N. Pennington Facility on Foster Drive. The 55,000 square foot Pennington Facility will include separate areas for teens, tweens and youth with homework rooms, computer labs, rec rooms and art rooms. It also houses a commercial-grade kitchen, a cafeteria/multi-purpose room and a four-court gymnasium, as well as a large backyard area. The new facility opens for programming beginning in June 2014 and will offer a complete Summer Camp Program experience for youth, tweens and teens. In addition, during the school year the facility will offer afterschool programming, WCSD school break programs and sports leagues.

SPECIALTY CAMPS

Looking for exciting camps for special interests like science or swimming? Check out the Club’s array of summer specialty camps! These camps run in addition to and in conjunction with the traditional day camp program at all sites, so campers can enjoy their specialty camp and then rejoin the day camp program before or after their assigned specialty camp time. Specialty Camp fees include the weekly Day Camp fee of $40. Specialty Camps are only offered at three youth sites in Reno and one site in Fernley  including the new William N. Pennington Facility (1300 Foster Dr., Reno), Donald W. Reynolds Facility (2680 East Ninth Street, Reno) Billinghurst Middle School (6685 Chesterfield Ln., Reno) and Fernley Intermediate School (320 US Highway 95 A South, Fernley). Register for specialty camps at the site which the camp is offered, Weeks 1 – 8 during the Summer Camp Program.

 *Campers can participate in Traditional Day Camp before and/or after scheduled Specialty Camp time.

** Price includes weekly Traditional Day Camp fee of $40 / week.

 

Rocket Build Camp

3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . Blast off to an exciting adventure of experiencing flight by building model airplanes; travel to the Fleischman Planetarium to watch a space movie on their dome theater; or engineer and design your own model rocket and launch.

Ages: 10-12

Club Kids’ College 

CKC is a specialty camp that takes Club members to the University of Nevada, Reno campus to get a first-hand experience of college life.  We teach members the importance of college, how to save for college and ultimately, how to go to college. Another aspect of the program is for members to gain entrepreneurial skills by learning about the four “P’s” (Place, Product, Price and Promotion) and then creating a lemonade stand on campus.

Ages: 8-13

Robotics Camp

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto! Spend a week learning how to engineer robots using Lego NXT kits. Gain basic engineering concepts of building robots utilizing sensors and motors. Learn how to program mechanical parts to perform a variety of challenges. Discover your tech skills and gear up for the FIRST Lego League at a final competition available to camp attendees July 18.

Science Camp

Calling all Scientists! This extraordinary camp teaches members the scientific method and science safety tips. Club members have the opportunity to create and explore mind boggling science experiments.

Ages: 9-12

Hours: 9am-12pm*

Fee: $100**

Board-N-Blade Camp

This camp travels to many skate parks around the Reno/Sparks area. Skilled staff educates Club members on proper procedures and protections while we sidewalk surf. Camp also teaches board and blade maintenance and proper techniques for tricks.    

Ages: 10-15

Hours: 9am-12pm*

Streams & Trails

Campers visit numerous streams and trails in the beautiful Sierra for fishing, hiking and geocaching.  Members will learn how to catch and release, discover secret treasures and explore the great outdoors.  Please provide your children with proper equipment if available.

Sherlock Holmes Detective Camp 

This camp introduces Club members to both Sherlock Holmes and forensic science. Students will learn about Holmes and the methods he used to solve crime and mysteries. They get a chance to apply these methods by “investigating” their own crime scene.

Art Explorers Camp 

Explore art through the ages in this hands-on camp! Renaissance to Pop, crayons to acrylic … members will experiment with different art mediums each day to create their own masterpieces from art movements throughout history. Don’t be afraid to get messy and all materials will be provided!

Ages: 9-12

Hours: 9am-12pm*

Cheerleading Camp

Campers are instructed on the basics of cheerleading including: dancing, motions, jumps, chants, cheers, tumbling, stunts, spirit and performance skills. This is a perfect camp for the beginner cheerleader or the cheerleader that just wants to have fun! This is a NON competitive program and camp is limited to 50 Club members per week. (Note: Campers please wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.)

eNVision Drum Camp

Are you ready to make some noise?! Drums, flags and dance come together in this camp. Professionals from eNVision teach members technical and performance drum and dance techniques. This camp ends with a big finale, as members in this camp perform alongside eNVision at their annual Artown event “Get in the Mix: Drums, Flags and Dance”.

Age: 9-13

Reno Rock Camp

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?! Reno Rock Camp is a summer music camp where members learn to play drums, bass, guitar, trumpet, jazz, mixing and voice skills. Members will record music, learn stage presence, build confidence and learn choreography.  At the end of the camp, members will perform for their friends, family and Artown. No experience necessary, just the urge to rock!

Age: 8-17

Get Fit for Life Camp

This camp shows Club members the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Kids will learn about nutrition and build skills necessary to adopt healthy habits through fun hands-on activities like preparing their own healthy meals. Campers will also learn the importance of maintaining physical fitness and exercise that can be lots of fun!

Ages: 8-12

Equestrian Camp

Club members receive a full week of instruction and activities, including the basics of horse care and management, how to saddle and groom a horse, safety etiquette, and actually riding a horse.  A free T-shirt, bag and water bottle are included!

Ages: Week 7 for 6-9

Week 8 for 9-12

Hours: 9am-3pm*

Sports Adventure Camp

Get ready for some action! Do you love the outdoors? Do you love to be active?  This camp is for you! We teach kids how to rock climb and visit Lake Tahoe for a day to kayak. Campers will hike in the foothills of the Sierras and take a long bike ride in the great outdoors. The highlight of the week includes a tram ride to the top of Squaw Valley, CA where campers will enjoy a great day of swimming and fun. (Lunch and water will be provided.)

Swim Lessons

Learn to swim this summer! Swim lessons will provide an excellent opportunity to get your child swimming. Swim lessons will be offered throughout the entire summer but space is limited and will fill up fast.

Fernley – Wild West Camp   

What’s up in them there hills? Come join us for a five-day, hands-on curriculum to cover topics that include: Nevada state history; mining; wild horses; western traditions and the rodeo industry in Nevada. Participants will interact with horses during the week and learn about caring for them. Fernley Rodeo Association members and rodeo queen candidates will present the lessons.

Fernley – Summer Dance Camp 

Alicia Orsley will run two fun and exciting summer dance camps! Members will learn hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap and Irish dancing. The “Disney Princesses” themed dance camp for ages 6-10 runs June 9-13 and includes a final recital on June 13. The “Grease” themed camp runs July 28 – August 1 for ages 10-18 with a final recital on August 1. Activities for both camps include costume design for the recitals. Parents and family are encouraged to attend the final recitals.

Whether it’s a game of pool at the “Club” at the Donald W. Reynolds Facility, video games at Sun Valley Teen Center, or practicing hip-hop dance at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center in Sparks, there is no shortage of options for teenagers this summer in Reno, Sparks and Fernley.

Basic principles guide the mission of the Boys & Girls Club: We operate in the Truckee Meadows as a place where youth can come and have fun, build character, learn life-skills and develop meaningful relationships. It is a formula that inspires success, and over the years the Club has had positive interaction with countless youth who have gone on to pursue success in their lives and relationships.

New teens are always welcome at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows – all for a $20 annual membership – so come check out one of our sites and see what being a member of the “Club” is all about.

Teen Adventure Camp

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows’ teen centers are filled with FUN activities this summer. Each day varies at the Teen Centers with activities such as games, movies and cooking – there’s something for all teens! We have outdoor fitness programs that will take you hiking and white water rafting.  We offer character and leadership programs to get you involved in your community. We are fully staffed with 21 and older professionals that have a passion for working with teens. Join us for an unforgettable summer!
