BOYS & GIRLS CLUB HOSTS GREAT FUTURES RALLY UNDER ICONIC RENO ARCH DURING HOT AUGUST NIGHTS
Pop-up Club experience highlights the importance of quality afterschool programming as community prepares to go back-to-school this fall
The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows plans to set-up its 21st area location underneath the iconic Reno Arch, July 31 at 3 p.m. in partnership with Hot August Nights, the premier nostalgic classic car show in the world annually drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to northern Nevada. The pop-up Club and rally is part of a national launch of the Great Futures Campaign, an initiative to mobilize the country in support of kids and empower our nation’s youth to achieve success. The pop-up Boys & Girls Club under the Reno Arch will include a sample of the Club’s programming areas including education, arts, games and recreation. The focus of the event is to create awareness and highlight the amazing moments that happen inside Boys & Girls Clubs each school day after 3 p.m. (during the critical after-school hours).
“Through the Great Futures campaign we want to reach more kids in need during the out-of-school time and grow participation in our life-changing, outcome-driven programs for even greater impact on kids in Reno, Sparks and Fernley,” said Mike Wurm, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. “We appreciate the partnership with the Hot August Nights Foundation that allows us the opportunity to highlight the Club and its programs during this spectacular world-class event in our own home town.”
The Boys & Girls Club Great Futures Campaign looks to elevate the critical role out-of-school time plays in a child’s chance for a great future. Every day, 15 million kids leave school with no place to go¹, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. What happens during the hours between school and home can have a dramatic impact on a child’s future. By providing access to positive and productive programs as well as caring adult mentors during the out-of-school time, the Boys & Girls Club can help reverse the most negative trends facing our youth.
“We are a proud partner of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows as our Foundation shares a similar mission to provide children in need or at risk with a more meaningful and productive life through the availability of continuing and higher education,” said Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights. “The Club provides critical programming and services to the community, and we are excited for them to have this opportunity to showcase this during our event.”
As a leading advocate for youth, Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide want to ensure every child has access to a safe place after school and during the summer where they can build the knowledge, skills and behaviors to put them on the right path. Through the Great Futures Campaign, the Boys & Girls Club wants to transform the future of our kids, community and country.
